A community’s elders are a vital link to that group’s heritage, history, and identity, but the late 20th century created a perfect storm of factors, including anti-LGBT legislation and the AIDS crisis, that decimated the generation that now makes up the elders of the LGBTQIA community. Growing Gold centers on and celebrates the stories of the surviving members of that generation, creating in-the-moment connections between participating storytellers and the audience, and memorializing these stories through performances created by current and former members of our Apprentice Company.
