Get excited for this regional premiere comedy with these behind-the-scenes facts!

Kick off the new year with the messy comedy I Need That, February 8 – March 2!
Award-winning playwright Theresa Rebeck (Bad Dates, NBC’s Smash) directs her new hilarious, heartfelt, and human play about a curmudgeonly father, his exasperated daughter, his patient best friend, and life’s messes following its successful Broadway run.
Add some laughter to your winter and go behind-the-scenes on this regional premiere!
Here are 5 things to know about this clutter-ful comedy!
- Theresa Rebeck is Broadway’s most produced woman playwright! In addition to I Need That, fans might’ve also seen her work in Bernhardt/Hamlet, Dead Accounts, Seminar, and Mauritius. Some of the actors starring in her Broadway credits include Alan Rickman, Danny DeVito, Alison Pill, F. Murray Abraham, Katie Holmes, Judy Greer, and Jeff Goldblum, just to name a few.
- Not only is this a regional premiere production—it’s the first production in the world following its Broadway run. Theresa Rebeck called Producing Artistic Director D. Lynn Meyers to say she wanted ETC to be the first theatre to do it and that she wanted to direct it. Plus, she’s from Cincinnati and graduated from Ursuline Academy, so we’re thrilled to welcome her back!

- David Wohl makes his ETC debut as pack rat Sam, but you may have seen his face before. Some of his TV and film credits include Revenge of the Nerds, Saving Private Ryan, Terms of Endearment, Troop Beverly Hills, Hot Shots! Part Deux, Brooklyn Bridge, Madam Secretary, and Hey Arnold!
- It’ll be no surprise that this show has tons of props and set dressing—curated by Shannon Rae Lutz! Some props include an old TV set (and bunny ears), classic board games, stacks of magazines, and an old guitar. Catch the show to find what else you’ll spot.
- We’re so excited to welcome back Fitz Patton! He did the original sound design for I Need That in New York City, but he’s reimagining it for our production. In addition to being a Tony-winning sound designer (Choir Boy), he’s also the composer of ETC’s Cinderella, one of our family-friendly holiday musicals!
