As most of us will agree, 2020 has been unlike any other year in recent memory. The 2020-2021 Season marks Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati’s 35th Anniversary. Not a day of these many years would have happened without you. I want to thank you, more than mere words can express, for your unwavering patience during this difficult and unprecedented time.
Our stage has been dark for more than eight months now. In that time, we have transitioned from office meetings to Zoom calls, cozy furnaces to air conditioning (and back again), a full, boisterous lobby to a lonely and deafening quiet. But: we are still here and are making plans to move forward.
Even though we are not on stage, we ARE online and I hope you have seen some of the many offerings we have shared.
Ensemble was also featured on Courtis Fuller’s Let’s Talk Cincinnati recently, looking at how the arts can respond to and be a catalyst for social change, so I hope you will take a few minutes to watch this segment.
Our work with the schools has been challenging as students switched from classroom desks to kitchen tables. However, with three world premiere pieces created and shared, the connections to young audiences and artists have remained through our annual Jackie Demaline Playwright Competition, with the winning play having had its full-length online premiere. You can watch the featured excerpts from our three finalists.
So what’s next? When does the 35th Season take the stage? I wish I had the date and time; if I did I would already be standing at the front doors waiting to welcome you. However, as COVID-19 continues to impact our nation, my primary concern is your safety, health, and well being. Without you, we don’t exist. Without you, there is no Ensemble.
Although it won’t be business-as-usual going forward, I promise we will keep you safe in your seats when you do return, and I promise to stay in touch.
Warm regards,
D. Lynn Meyers
